Computer simulation of the motion of single actin molecules in a model growth cone. The growth cone volume is shown in blue, micropatterns are delineated by white squares, and single actin molecules appear as red spots. Note that actin molecules move steadily rearward from the tip to the base of the growth cone and stop transiently when they reach micropatterns, mimicking interactions with N-cadherin adhesions.
