Animation of micromachined helix reconstructed from segmented confocal images. Tomographic confocal images of a helical pattern micromachined into a silk gel were collected. After multiphoton machining and prior to imaging the silk was stained with Rhodamine B. The images were segmented semiautomatically based on fluorescence intensity to create a 3D model which was then animated to show details of the exterior and interior surface of the machined region.
