Movie S1.
Navigation in the static and random environments. The first part of the movie shows a successful trial in the static maze. The subject starts at the location of an object (camera), navigates the corridors, passes a nontarget object (chair), and finds the target (fish). The second trial is taken from the random maze and visualizes that the layout of the maze changes continuously outside the FOV of the participant. The subject travels a certain route, but when turning and traveling back the corridors have changed. At the beginning of every trial, the condition is indicated (“Dieses Labyrinth bleibt konstant [K]/Dieses Labyrinth verändert sich [V]” [“this maze is static/this maze is changing”]) and remains visible throughout the whole trial in the upper right corner together with the target. The movie depicts the FOV as seen during the experiment. Video quality and smoothness of movement are significantly reduced compared with the original.
