Movie S4.

Consecutive image sequence of swirling strength λci=35×5.33×10−4Uf/θ0 overlaid on the temperature isosurface of φ=0.95φwall in Movie S3. The images are over the fully turbulent range 2,100<Reθ< 2,860. Blue indicates y+<25; red corresponds to 100<y+<125. The image sequence starts from instance t=110,000Δt and ends at t=115,000Δt. Only the grid points within the range of y/δ<0.15 (approximately) are shown. It is evident that the sublayer streaks are indented, segmented, and terminated by the inner-layer TRTSs, and the sublayer streaks are often simply the edges of indentation pockets caused by the spots. High-resolution and long-duration versions of this image sequence from instance t=100,000Δt to t=120,000Δt can be downloaded from the Center for Turbulence Research website at Stanford University.
