Coronal view of mouse heart collected 7 days after induction of myocardial infarction and imaged by optical projection tomography, as we have described in (Zhao et al. 2015). Progressive optical sectioning through the heart reveals the extensive, thinned infarct area of the left ventricle. In 11β-HSD1 deficient mice the length of the infarcted area is reduced and the ventricle wall is less thinned (McSweeney et al. 2010, White 2016).
